Edward is honored to have the opportunity to earn your vote for the Palomar College Trustee Area 2. He’s a lifelong educator serving communities and students at over eight community colleges and universities spanning a 41 year career as an educator. His roles included staff, counselor, administrator, and faculty. The community college experience is the communities’ gateway to educational and workforce opportunities.
As a first generation college student, Edward is a proud community college alumnus and found his purpose in college through the curriculum, campus activities, and program services. He understands the community college mission and the value it holds for all communities across ideological, economic, cultural, and educational contexts.
Edward is running for trustee because he believes in the power of community college to change and impact lives in a democratic society. His goal is to sustain Palomar College’s progress and ensure the college’s programs meet the communities’ needs.
He’s mentored countless students who have gone on to multiple careers and have contributed to our diverse communities’ brilliance, sustainability, and resilience.
Authentic Background
Dr. Edward Pohlert is a multiethnic 1st generation immigrant born in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1966 from Amsterdam and has lived in Argentina, Los Angeles, Hawaii, and San Diego. Edward graduated from the Los Angeles public school system in 1975. He’s the first in his family to attain college degrees from Los Angeles City College, CSULA, and SDSU. His advanced doctorate degree in cultural psychology is from Alliant International University.
His ability to communicate in Spanish, Indonesian, Dutch, and English provides a cross cultural and warm communication skillset that endears Edward to many community members. He believes that when we meet people where they are, then we can begin to understand their collective needs.
Edward has facilitated the successful transformation of community members and students that resulted in personal and professional success through the community colleges and universities in our region.
He’s lived in San Marcos for 32 years and is married for over 34 years and has two adult sons and a new grandson.
